Do not let the passing fool you

Hey, I think following your own trail is the most genius thing people do yet it is not rosy, I mean if you are having high hopes in your thing you know how hard it is for you, and you actually do it because it is the only thing that is giving you joy. If you haven't found anything of the sort you are even lucky what am I saying those who are lost are better than the found simply because there is a whole lot to explore, for the "found" it is a different story.  Let me explain, so very much we are into what is happening, we have the news with us, what is the hot cake of the day (I am not complaining though), I just think the most important thing is our news, our personal news, how are you doing I do not mean to sound corny but just how you feel. It is not going to guarantee any fortunes whatsoever though that's precisely how fortunes come. While you are being yourself and you do not let any destruction that is in the day get into who you are becoming you are going to e...

We suffer in Imagination than in reality

Hey, I have used a title from a quote by Seneca("we suffer more in imagination than in reality"-Seneca) with no particular reason other than a frank intention that extensively explains what I want to share with you. It paints a very vivid picture of my massage. Anyway, with no further ado let us get into it. Let us face it we are always worrying, right? what will happen if I do not pass my exams? what if I do not get my diploma, my degree, or my Ph.D.? what will people say if I start a youtube channel? what will people say if I speak about this? what will people say I am not married and I am 35? just worry, worry, and more worry. While it might be fair to say that worry is a part of life and there is no one out there who does not. But what is very evident is that it just that like it is just thoughts on our heads playing over and over. So what is my point? Well as much as we always worry, sorry as much as we have to worry we should not let it dictate our way of thinking and ...

Stop thinking and start doing

Hey, do you remember that resolution you made this year? well, whether you made one or not that is not the point. Most of the time we always want to make the right choice, not that I am complaining, in fact, that is the most logical way of doing things yet when it comes to deciding we seem to not make a choice and move on with it and we fall into a pit we call agonizing. Agonizing looks something like this: "Am I sure this is the best decision ?" "what if I did option 3 instead?" "I wonder if I can go back and do it over?" If you have never fallen into such a pit consider yourself unusually fortunate, thank your parents for the good decision chemistry in your brain, and just read for the information. But if you are like most of us you know these are familiar questions. The reason we agonize is that we care for our lives and the lives of others. These decisions we make we know are important and we want to give the future its best possible chance. We want t...

Passion is important but remember value is everything

Repeatedly, you would hear people say you should be passionate about what you do. And as much as that is true for reasons we all know too well, there is an attribute which is everything, and that is 'value.' But before I bore you with my theories let me illustrate with a story of a company I think we are all familiar with, Apple Inc.  The company currently has a $1 trillion market valuation. The company started at Steve Jobs's parent's garage and it was his friend steve Wozniak who was passionate about electric boards experimenting with most of the boards he was building, who build the board of their first computer, and the rest is history as they say.   Now it is very easy to forget that a while ago that same company was facing bankruptcy. And there so many reasons as to why the company was heading to that ending but I want to stick to one, to illustrate my point.  One of the founders the late Steve Jobs was fired from the company in 1985 and by 1997 the company had...

Let us talk Change

Hey, changing is a broad word, right? like what do you mean how to change? The change I am talking about is personal. You know as humans we reach a point where we know we have to change, in fact, let me correct that, "we want to change" but there is that resistance to stay to the old self so to speak.  Talk of the change we innately know is good for ourselves, deep-down we know but going ahead and actually walking that talk is the mountain very few can climb. Hey, I am not trying to scare anyone but I am trying to paint the real picture. Let us face it change is difficult, we all know that. Now having said that if you want to change, or you are thinking of changing personally whether it is your lifestyle, your habits, your career, your business, and so forth. It is not going to come just like that I mean you are not going to just say "okay here is what I want" and you start to change just like that, no, it will take something more than that.  First, let us look at ...

What really means 'To be more productive'

Hey, How many times do you think to yourself I need to be more productive? an uncountable number of times right? Very often that thought is always begging us almost pushing us to do more. It tells you "you are so lazy, you can do more, you need to do more than you are doing." But to be fair nine times out of ten (9/10) that thought is usually right. We can do more than what we think we can but yet to actually be more productive is not answered by doing so much stuff. I know it is counterintuitive to what is considered to be more productive. So here is what I mean, to be more productive involves doing effective and quality work in less amount of time. That work should be externally rewarding.  Let me illustrate, picture two individuals with an equal number of hours say, eight, and they are told they should spend those hours as productive as possible. Now the first individual uses his time and accomplishes six tasks and 1 task out of those six was done with great effectiveness...

Know your worth

Hey, There is a law in life that has been, is, and will always be true that is, "you will always be treated how you treat yourself." How you view yourself, how you talk, how you walk, and even how you present yourself is vital from what you get back. People will treat you the way you treat yourself.   Now let us get real here, there are things you can never have control of, things like the climate of the day. If it is a rainy season for example, and the rain makes you moody or makes you view the day as bad then guess what? you can not have control of it, It will rain whether you like it or not. But there is one thing that you can control and that is yourself. Using the same rainy example imagine two salesmen waking up to that rainy day and one of them wakes up yawns looking outside the window sees the rain and says, "oh no it is raining today I can not make sales today no one will be outside." So he slides back in his warm bed and continues to sleep. Now picture th...

Why we have to stand up for ourselves

Hey, since time immemorial man has always made progress for the most part in standing up for himself. I mean just look at history and you will catch my drift. But for those who are still quite not there here is what I mean. From history, there is more evidence than I could gather and put in this blog but, to illustrate my point I will use the colonialism example. Colonialism could only go as far as those being colonized could take it. Colonized citizens realized enough is enough and they had to do something and the rest as they say is history. Now back to my point, I think there can be no progress whatsoever if we can not stand up for ourselves, and just to illustrate take a look at tyrannical Nations, communities, or governments. Progress as I have come to see is not something we wait for it is something we go for. All waiting can do is put more idleness in the world anyway. In other words, progress will never happen until we go for it.  It sounds like a cliche but to be fai...

Be You

The unexamined life is not worth living --Socrate  Hey, today I would like to talk about being our true selves, here is what I mean. Life is full of pressure right? In the sense that there is this expectation from family, friends, and society such that, they expect you to be a certain way. You tend to hear things like "you cannot be age X and not married," "or you cannot be 38 years of age and change your career you should have decided that by now," or the famous one, "you need to be like so and so." Whoever comes up with such "things" I do not know, but I think people tend to pass things from what has happened to them and as a result, try and pass it to you. I mean it's only natural for instance, a bully will bully someone because they have been bullied before, most parents tend to treat their children the way they may have been treated and the cycle continues.  When you think of it, it's only natural that you expect those close to you t...

Great can never be beat

Hey,  Today let us talk about great, and why it can never be beaten, well what does great mean exactly? Great means of the amount that is above average, or of quality, ability considerably above average. Now I think most of us can understand that now to the question of why it cannot be beaten. Something great is more appealing than something that is, say considered average. Anywhere you go everyone wants the better option and it's not that I am complaining, on the contrary, that is where I am hingeing my point so to speak. Anything great does not need to be defended it just defends itself. I like the way the Swahili saying puts it (kitu kizuri hujiuza kibaya hujitembeza) which means that something great will not need any convincing from anyone and the bad thing will always try to sell itself. So what is my position well as much as people would want to put all the excuses available about how the great may have not been achieved were it not for an advantage, resources, and so f...

Your Conviction Is Your Answer

All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle. ---Francis of Assis Hey, In life, we are influenced from the day we are born, I mean think of where you are born your siblings, your friends, and most significantly your parents. While we are always trying to be ourselves we cannot deny the fact that influence plays a major role in what we believe in So what am I getting at? Well I think who you are ought to be shaped by you and you alone I mean it is easier said than done. Here is my point, Influence will play a major role in our lives and as much as we would not like to admit it, it happens. The people and the environment you are in will influence you in a good way or a bad way, whether you are aware of it or not. You know most of the time we tend to lie to ourselves that if something is affecting someone else it cannot affect me. Well for your information it does, so my message to you is, to be cautious of who you are letting influence you. I mean you...

Why genuine will always win

"One genuine criticism is more precious than a thousand false praises!" -Avijeet Das Hi there, Now, the word genuine means that something is truly what it is said to be, it also means of a person or emotion, for example, somebody might say 'that's a genuine attempt to put things right.' Well, before I bore you with the meanings of words let me get to the point. The genuineness or authenticity I am referring to is the former, that something is truly what it is said to be. For example, Whether you are doing business, starting one, or even trying to change a lifestyle, if it is genuine it will tend to grow more and last for decades. Simply because it is unhypocritical. Now as much as I don't want to sound like a business guru inevitably the example might sound like one. You might try to disagree with that statement but there is one thing that you can not do and that is to ignore it because it is not only obviously true, and evident, but it also changes the game. ...

Stand up

"A man can not ride your back unless it is bent"  - Martin Luther King jr  Hey there! Now, I know the title might sound a bit corny to some people but just bear with me for a while, In life as individuals we tread different paths one aspires to accomplish what matters to them most. But we have to agree, we have got more in common than differences, right? I mean we all want a good life, we all want the good things in life so to speak. Having said that, when you get to go through life and get some experience you meet other people and they happen to treat you like a commodity and not a person. You get this feeling you do not have to care about anyone else but yourself, you start to care less about what happens to the one next to you and more about what happens to you. And, after all, we should all mind our own business right?  It is more of what I am doing to advance myself and to hell with the rest. We have given so much credit to what we own and what another does not. This...

When Things are Not working out

Hey there, Now today, I would like to talk about an issue I think affects every one of us. You know we are so into winning in life that we are planning for things to work out as we expect not that I am against it, and as much as there are techniques, tactics, and plans to achieve a certain goal. We have to admit that sometimes it does not work out as we expect and this would lead to some discouragement if not quitting. I like the way author and powerful speaker, Simon Sinek puts it, 'plan for the fact that planning never goes to plan.' So what is my point? In as much as we always plan, we will never have a secure and sure plan and at times we get into something most business people call the dip. You know where you are not going forward or backward almost like in a see-saw(up, down movement). Having said that we have to remember that we have to plan even in the midst of the deep or in other words when things are not working out. Perhaps that is the point where you stop, ponder,...
