Stand up
"A man can not ride your back unless it is bent" - Martin Luther King jr
Hey there! Now, I know the title might sound a bit corny to some people but just bear with me for a while, In life as individuals we tread different paths one aspires to accomplish what matters to them most. But we have to agree, we have got more in common than differences, right? I mean we all want a good life, we all want the good things in life so to speak. Having said that, when you get to go through life and get some experience you meet other people and they happen to treat you like a commodity and not a person. You get this feeling you do not have to care about anyone else but yourself, you start to care less about what happens to the one next to you and more about what happens to you. And, after all, we should all mind our own business right?
It is more of what I am doing to advance myself and to hell with the rest. We have given so much credit to what we own and what another does not. This leads to the dire issue of oppressing others to get what we want and going for them no matter what. This is obvious in our lives by the troubles that are around us, the talk of a boss underpaying his employees, and much more that I would not talk of today.
So what is my position? I think there is no time better than now to stand up for ourselves and become what we are wishing to see out here. As one Female Muslim activist in Nigeria recently said "when you fear to talk about something because you fear dying, that is the day you truly die.' So the point is, do not let anyone oppress you in any way or abuse the rights of any other person stand up for yourself and for those who can not. It sounds easy but then if it was everyone would be it doing.
A couple of weeks ago I was talking to someone about this topic and he said something boorish like "In life, there is no bad person you are the one who is a fool." In other words, people are oppressed because they let themselves be oppressed. I know as much as unknowledgeable as it sounds he has some point. People will take as much as you let them So I guess what I am saying is always have your shield in one hand and your sword in the other.
